SFB 1381 YIG Viviane Timmermann awarded prestigious Baden-Württemberg Stiftung funding

Aug 28, 2025

We heartily congratulate our SFB 1381 Young Investigator Grantee, Viviane Timmermann, on being awarded funding from the prestigious Sonderausschreibung für Internationale Wissenschaftsfreiheit program of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung. This outstanding achievement will enable her to establish and expand her junior research group, further strengthening her innovative interdisciplinary research at the crossroads of physics, biology, and medicine. Provided that the evaluation after three years is successful, funding for her junior research group will run for a total of six years and amount to 1.8 million euros.

Vivianes project, “The Heart under Pressure: Ischaemic Arrhythmogenesis at the Mechano-Electric Signalling Crossroad,” investigates how mechanical forces and electrical signals in the heart interact to trigger potentially life-threatening arrhythmias. By uncovering how the heart’s physical environment influences its electrical activity, her work could open new avenues for preventing and treating rhythm disorders.

Please find more information about the project in the press release of the University of Freiburg.
