Dr. Laura Gámez-Días from the Institute for Immunodeficiency, University Medical Center Freiburg, and Dr. Sascha Yousefi from the Institute of Biology III, University of Freiburg are the Young Investigator Grantees of the SFB 1381.

Asifa Akhtar (project B03) received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2021 by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for her outstanding work on the regulation of the genome.

SFB 1381 PI Oliver Einsle (project A04) was elected as a new member of the Leopoldina in 2020, which is considered as one of the highest academic awards and honors for scientists.

The SFB researchers Valérie Hilgers (project B04), Dominika Grzejda (project B04), Carlos-Alfonso Gonzalez (project B04) and others could show that the two neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins ELAV and FNE define the unique identity of neuronal messenger RNAs. Publication in Molecular Cell.

CALL FOR TWO YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANTS AT THE SFB 1381 (2 x 30.000 Euro): “Dynamic Organization of Cellular Protein Machineries: From Biogenesis and Modular Assembly to Function”

The SFB 1381 seeks for two highly talented and successful postdocs that are in the transition phase from postdoc to group leader (max. 5 years after PhD).

On the 12^th and 13^th of March 2020 the PIs of the SFB 1381 had their first retreat in the black forest at Hotel Saigerhöh. It was a very successful meeting and we are very much looking forward to the follow-up meeting next year!

SFB researchers Nora Vögtle (project B04), Daniel Poveda-Huertes (project A06), Chris Meisinger (project A06) and Claudine Kraft (project B10) discovered link of the mitochondrial presequence processing machinery to a nuclear stress response. Publication in Molecular Cell.

Sonja Albers (project A01), Shamphavi Sivabalasarma (project A01) and others could identify proteins that are essential for the motility structure of archaea. Publication in Nature Microbiology.

Maja Banks-Köhn (project A06) recieved a Consolidator Grant of two million euros from the ERC for a period of five years.

SFB researchers Bernd Fakler (project A08), Uwe Schulte (project Z01) and Wolfgang Bildl (project Z01) could provide a mechanistic insight into the stepwise biogenesis of AMPARs in native ER membranes. Publication in Neuron.

A versatile cryoslicing BN-MS protocol using a microtome for high-resolution complexome profiling was established by SFB researchers Catrin Müller (project A08), Wolfgang Bildl (project Z01), Bernd Fakler (project A08) and Uwe Schulte (project Z01).

In September 2019, SFB 1381 PIs Claudine Kraft and Nora Vögtle participated in the event “How to Boost your Academic Career: Tips from Successful Scientists”, organized by the Faculty of Medicine. They gave an insight into their academic career steps.

Sonja Albers (project A01) was elected as an EMBO member in June 2019.
