The launch of a new CryoEM facility at the University of Freiburg is an exciting development — but how can researchers from our SFB and beyond make use of it? To help answer this question, the facility hosted an introductory workshop from May 5–8, 2025, which was supported by the SFB 1381.
Dr. Stefan Steimle, the facility’s technical manager, opened the workshop with an overview of CryoEM for all participants. Following this, small groups of up to five people took part in hands-on sessions where they learned the practical aspects of the technique: preparing samples, loading them into the microscope, screening, and data collection.
The workshop concluded with a group session focused on data analysis. Participants left feeling inspired and full of ideas for how to integrate CryoEM into their own research projects.
