SFB 1381 PI Nora Vögtle participated in the Scientific Career Symposium “The Academic Road” where she talked about both her research and her academic career. This event gave young scientists the opportunity to get to know academic career paths.

The SFB PI Sonja Albers (project A1) and the Young Investigator Grantee Sascha Yousefi (project YIG2) are presenting their work to the public in the frame of the Pint of Science Germany Festival. Attendance is free of charge.

On the 8th and 9th of March 2021 all SFB researchers met virtually for the annual retreat. Although we could not meet in person, the meeting was a great success. Thanks to all participants for their excellent contributions!

Dr. Laura Gámez-Días from the Institute of Immunodeficency, University Medical Center Freiburg, and Dr. Sascha Yousefi from the Institute of Biology, University of Freiburg are the Young Investigator Grantees of the SFB 1381.

Asifa Akhtar (Project B3) received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize 2021 by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for her outstanding work on the regulation of the genome.

SFB 1381 PI Oliver Einsle (Project A4) was elected as a new member of the Leopoldina in 2020, which is considered as one of the highest academic awards and honors for scientists.

The SFB researchers Valérie Hilgers (B4), Dominika Grzejda (B4), Carlos-Alfonso Gonzalez (B4) and others could show that the two neuron-specific RNA-binding proteins ELAV and FNE define the unique identity of neuronal messenger RNAs. Publication in Molecular Cell.

CALL FOR TWO YOUNG INVESTIGATOR GRANTS AT THE SFB 1381 (2 x 30.000 Euro): “Dynamic Organization of Cellular Protein Machineries: From Biogenesis and Modular Assembly to Function”

The SFB 1381 seeks for two highly talented and successful post-docs that are in the transition phase from post-doc to group leader (max. 5 years after PhD).

SFB 1381 PI Asifah Akthar talks about the Gender-Gap in science and how to deal with it in an interview published in Labor Journal.

SFB 1381 is partner organizer of the first international CIBSS Symposium “Signalling across Scales”, November 23-25, 2020.

On the 12^th and 13^th of March 2020 the PIs of the SFB 1381 had their first retreat in the black forest at Hotel Saigerhöh. It was a very successful meeting and we are very much looking forward to the follow-up meeting next year!

SFB researchers Nora Vögtle (Project B4), Daniel Poveda-Huertes and Chris Meisinger (Project A6) as well as Claudine Kraft (Project B10) discovered link of the mitochondrial presequence processing machinery to a nuclear stress response. Publication in Molecular Cell.

Sonja Albers (Project A1), Shamphavi Sivabalasarma (Project A1) and others could identify proteins that are essential for the motility structure of archaea. Publication in Nature Microbiology.

Maja Banks-Köhn (Project A6) recieved a Consolidator Grant of two million euros from the ERC for a period of five years.

SFB researchers Bernd Fakler (Project A8), Uwe Schulte (Project Z1) and Wolfgang Bildl (Project Z1) could provide a mechanistic insight into the stepwise biogenesis of AMPARs in native ER membranes. Publication in Neuron.
