The team of SFB 1381 PI Sonja Albers (project A01) has identified the archaellum machinery in several bacterial strains and solved the structure of the bacterial archaellum from Litorilinea aerophila using cryoEM. Published in Nature Microbiology.

A collaborative study by projects AI06 (Maja Köhn), B04 (Nora Vögtle), and A06 (Chris Meisinger) identified PP2A as a phosphatase of Tom 6 by deploying synthetic trap-peptides. Published in the FEBS Journal.

SFB 1381 Young Investigator Grantee Viviane Timmermann has received six years of highly competitive funding from the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung to lead her own independent research group.

In a collaborative study, SFB 1381 PIs Khaled Selim (B12) and Sonja Albers (A01) showed that the second messenger c-di-AMP, together with its receptor protein ComFB, regulates the contractile pilus machinery and thereby natural competence. Published in Cell Discovery.

The SFB 1381 hosted a successful workshop on utilizing AI tools for research, led by SFB YIG Viviane Timmermann.

The two paralogous proteins NRBP1 and NRBP2 exert opposing effects on the integrity of the LINE-1 ribonucleoprotein (RNP) machinery, thereby regulating LINE-1 retrotransposition. This discovery, made by project B09 (Baumeister), has been published in Nature Communications.

Asifa Akhtar (Project B03) has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society appreciating her scientific contributions and her leadership.

A research team including SFB 1381 PIs Friedel Drepper, Pitter Huesgen and Thorsten Hugel showed that a flexible protein domain in the TAF2 protein determines its localisation and interactions with the transcription machinery. Published in Cell Reports.
