In the SFB 1381, we are strongly committed to support and inspire young people with an interest in the natural sciences – both at school and university level.

To support university students, we closely collaborate with the junior group of the GBM (Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie e.V.) in Freiburg. Together, we have co-organized events such as the “Picture a Scientist” movie screening and discussion event and company visits.

To encourage interest in the molecular life sciences from an even earlier age, we support the NaT-Working Projekt Molekularbiologie, initiated by Chris Meisinger (A06/Z02) at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Freiburg. The project is built around three key pillars:

Broad-based support
Students have the opportunity to conduct molecular biology and biochemistry experiments directly at their schools.

Talent development
Particularly motivated students are invited to visit the University of Freiburg, where they perform experiments in our laboratories and gain hands-on experience with academic research.

Advanced support for high-achieving students
Selected participants are invited to join an annual school conference organized in collaboration with the SFB 1381.

Finally, we join Girls’ Day to inspire the next generation of women in the molecular life sciences. For more information, check out our news article.
