Assembly, Dynamics and Function of ELAV Protein Machineries in Neurons

Project Summary

In Drosophila, the protein ELAV causes an extension of the 3’ UTR of hundreds of genes, exclusively in neurons. In this proposal, we will dissect the assembly and modular composition of ELAV-containing ribonucleoprotein complexes from transcription to cytoplasmic function, in an animal model. We will study the recruitment of the ELAV machinery to the promoter, and how the composition of the machinery is altered as ELAV is recruited away from the DNA onto the nascent RNA. We will also determine the composition of protein subassemblies involved in the cytoplasmic regulation of long mRNAs.
